The country with the largest volume of soya bean production was Nigeria
(X tons), accounting for 53% of total volume. Moreover, soya bean
production in Nigeria exceeded the figures recorded by the
second-largest producer, Benin (X tons), threefold. The third position
in this ranking was held by Ghana (X tons), with a 15% share.
In Nigeria, soya bean production remained relatively stable over the
period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates
were as follows: Benin (+15.2% per year) and Ghana (+2.0% per year).
The average soya bean yield stood at X tons per ha in 2021, almost
unchanged from the previous year.
Overall, the yield saw a relatively
flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in
2014 when the yield increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the
period under review, the soya bean yield attained the maximum level at X
tons per ha in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021. Despite
the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future
yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2021, approx. X ha of soya beans were harvested in Western Africa;
with an increase of 4.2% compared with the previous year. The total
harvested area indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its
figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine
years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable
fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on
2021 figures, soya bean harvested area decreased by -24.5% against 2017
indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an
increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the harvested area
dedicated to soya bean production attained the peak figure at X ha in
2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the harvested area remained at a lower
figure.
